A free, 3-minute way to make sure the people you love actually vote.
In this newsletter:
Introducing 7 Votes: a free, nonpartisan tool to help seven people you know actually vote
Why one congressional seat in 2024 came down to 187 votes, and what that means for you
Your three-step mission (about three minutes to start)
Hi Friend,
We have an assignment for you. It’s not seven hours of research, seven meetings, or seven doors to knock on.
Just seven people (more on this in a moment.)
You’ve heard us say we need more volunteers and more eyes on the process. That’s still true.
But there’s one thing we need even more: people who actually show up and vote.
As Catherine wrote in this week’s newsletter, frustration is understandable. Giving up is not the answer. Not voting leads to anything but the desired results.
The quiet lie
There’s a sentence keeping millions of Americans home every election:
“My vote doesn’t matter.”
You’ve heard it. Maybe from a coworker who stopped paying attention years ago. A neighbor who’s sure the outcome is already decided. A family member who means to vote but never checked their registration.
The quiet lie of your vote not being important wins elections, and it doesn’t have to cast a single ballot to do it.
The proof it’s wrong
In 2024, California’s 13th Congressional District was decided by 187 votes.
That’s a few packed church pews. It’s less than one Sunday crowd at a lot of small-town congregations.
So we built something to make getting out to vote — and reminding others to do the same — so. dang. easy.
Introducing 7 Votes
7Votes.org is a new, free, nonpartisan initiative from True the Vote Now, built on one simple idea:
The most powerful person to encourage someone to vote is someone they already know.
Not a TV ad. Not a mailer. You.
Your assignment:
Pick your seven. Friends, family, neighbors, coworkers.
Reach out. 7 Votes helps you draft personal messages to check registration, share information, and make a voting plan. You send them yourself.
Follow through. Track their progress, cheer them on, and help them get to the polls.
Now picture this: your seven each reach seven more.
Seven becomes 49. Forty-nine becomes 343. One volunteer’s kitchen-table effort could reach hundreds of people.
7 Votes doesn’t ask who anyone votes for and it isn’t about parties or candidates. It’s about participation, and about reminding people their voice counts.
We spend a lot of time on what needs to change in our elections. This is something you can do right now, without waiting on Congress, a court, or an election official.
Your mission this week
Visit 7Votes.org and choose your seven. It takes about three minutes, and it’s completely free.
Then invite one more volunteer to take the same challenge.
We don’t need you to reach a million people. Just the seven right in front of you.
187 votes decided a seat in Congress. Your seven could be the start of the next margin.
