2028 starts today.
Yesterday was a rout. Failed leadership. Squandered opportunities. Too many people entrusted with responsibility who could not find the courage to meet it.
But if we come out of this with nothing more than a list of people to blame, we will have wasted even this.
Something deeper is happening to our country. And we had better find the courage to face it.
We have become careless with an extraordinary inheritance.
Careless with our freedom. Careless with the truth. Careless with one another. We enjoy blessings that generations before us sacrificed everything to secure, and somewhere along the way, we began treating those blessings as guarantees.
They are not guaranteed.
Neither is America.
A nation cannot remain free when its people forget what freedom requires. We cannot outsource courage to a candidate, responsibility to a party, or the future of our children to whoever happens to win the next election.
We have to become people capable of preserving what we say we love.
That requires some brutal honesty.
Have we mistaken posting for participating? Have we demanded integrity from public officials while excusing dishonesty when it benefits our side? Have we spent more time condemning strangers than helping our neighbors? Have we become so consumed by what is wrong that we have forgotten to thank God for what is still good—and accept responsibility for protecting it?
I am asking myself every one of those questions.
There is a spiritual desert beneath all this noise. Ingratitude. Pride. Indifference. Cowardice. The dangerous belief that someone else will do the hard things while we watch.
No election can do that soul-searching for us.
We need humility enough to examine ourselves and courage enough to change. We need to get on our knees before God, then get on our feet and take responsibility for the work in front of us.
To everyone who checked a voter record, helped a friend vote, served at the polls, documented a problem, prayed, volunteered, or gave to keep this work going: thank you. You showed up. Your work mattered. Please hear that today.
And hear this, too: we are going to need each other for what comes next.
At True the Vote, we will examine our own work with the same scrutiny we ask of others. We will keep pursuing answers, equipping citizens, and insisting on election processes the public can verify. We will keep showing up in the communities where trust has been broken and people have been forgotten.
2028 starts today.
Let’s go. Never quit. Isaiah 6:8. Ephesians 6. Game on.
Ever onward —
P.S. We have to work harder than we ever have. Starting immediately. And we need your financial support to do it. Please make a gift to True the Vote today. Help us pursue answers, equip citizens, and stay in the fight for trustworthy elections. Every day between now and 2028 matters.
